This Sunday is going to ROCK!!!!! There’s a BUZZ in the air among our staff and volunteers that’s got me FIRED UP more than normal. Couple of important things to remember:
#1 – NEW SERVICE TIMES – MERGE SUNDAY

Services begin at 9:30am and 11:15am at our ATHENS CAMPUS ONLY as we MERGE our Athens and Oconee Campuses together.
COMPASS-ERS:
  • #1 – PLEASE arrive EARLY!!!!! (at least 15 minutes) to best serve our guests in the areas of parking and children’s check in!! Please honor our guest parking like never before (there will be a ton of parkers and new signage to greet and direct you).
  • #2 - COMPASS KIDS is going to ROCK like NEVER BEFORE. The 706 Student Band will be playing LIVE in both services for COMPASS KIDS which means you better bring your friends!! PARENTS – get there EARLY this week for new check system.
  • #3 – BRING A GUEST – this is a GREAT Sunday and an AWESOME SERIES to bring Guests to – step it up and step out and bring someone with you in your life you know needs Jesus – you’ll both be really glad you did!!
  • #4 – PRAY LIKE CRAZY for God to Show UP & Show OFF & CHANGE LIVES – that’s why we do what we do!!

#2 – NEW SERIES - WORSHIP HIM BEGINS SUNDAY
I just sent my message notes and can seriously say it’s one of my all time favorites – I CAN’T WAIT TO PREACH ABOUT WORSHIP ON SUNDAY!!!! The lights have been on pretty much 24/7 this week as our Amazing Staff and Volunteers have literally worked AROUND THE CLOCK to get our Athens Campus ready for the MERGE. So, now you know the Compass Team and preacher man are bringing our A GAME – How About You? CAN’T WAIT!!!!

Over the next 3 Sundays, we have 3 DIFFERENT sets of Service Times. Are we CRAZY? No!! Just AUDACIOUS!!  Here’s what it looks like. Take Note because the next 3 Sundays at Compass are going to be the BEST EVER!!!!!

  • THIS SUNDAY, 1/24/10 – No Changes and YES, we will be ONE CHURCH in TWO LOCATIONS for one more week. ATHENS CAMPUS will meet at 9:30 and 11:00 am. OCONEE CAMPUS will meet at 11:00am.
  • NEXT SUNDAY, 1/31/10 COMPASS’ TENTH ANNIVERSARY SERVICE at North Oconee High School Fine Arts Center. At 10:30 am, all 3 services and both campuses will come together for  ONE COMBINED service. YEA, it’s going to ROCK. I Can’t Wait!! Get there early – all I know is that God is going to be Lifted High and embarrassing pictures will be shown (I’ve changed a lot in 10 years).
  • FEBRUARY 7 – MERGE SUNDAY!! Super Bowl Sunday kicks off in Athens, GA with 2 merged services at our Athens Campus. Service Times will be 9:30 & 11:15 am. PLEASE get there EARLY for both services to give plenty of time to park and check your kids in to Compass Kids!!
SOME RANDOM THOUGHTS –
  • CAN’T WAIT to preach tomorrow – what we had planned a couple of months ago and what God had planned we’re two different things. We decided to go with GOD – Can’t Wait!!
  • The 706 Student Band is leading us in worship tomorrow – that gets me FIRED UP!!
  • Compass’ 2nd NIGHT OF WORSHIP will be this Sunday Night at the AC – 6:00pm. Don’t know of a better way to prepare to merge our two campuses together than through BOLD WORSHIP & BEGGING GOD to do something BIG in our generation & city!!
  • Merging our two incredible campuses back together was the TOUGHEST but most ENCOURAGING leadership decision I’ve had to make up to this point (yea, I know there will be more!!)
    • TOUGHEST for many reasons -
    • Most of all, God is doing AMAZING things on our OC because of this church’s willingness to take risks
    • …and, I knew it would be a Big Ask of our Oconee, Walton, and Barrow families to drive an extra 25 minutes to get to church
    • …and, it’s always difficult when God asks you to do something you don’t want to do
    • …and, sometimes God asks you to do things JUST SO YOU CAN SAY YES & BE OBEDIENT – don’t you hate that!? (just ask Abraham & Sarah – Genesis 22)
    • ENCOURAGING for many reasons -
    • Each of you – your support and belief in the Big Vision & Next Steps God has laid out for this church has been overwhelming
    • …a friend who told me “A Church ALIVE is Worth the DRIVE” and God definitely is ALIVE @ Compass!!
    • …a volunteer leader said “This is a DYNAMIC CHURCH where God is changing lives & it does not matter where it’s at!” – BAM!!!!
    • We might be meeting in the same place again (the warehouse), BUT we are definitely NOT THE SAME CHURCH
    • …we are STRONGER, have 3x as many VOLUNTEERS, and a PASSION that has grown exponentially to do whatever it takes to see lives changed and make Jesus Famous in NE Georgia and Beyond!!
    • No doubt – what some might perceive as a SET-BACK is really a SET-UP for ALL that God has planned NEXT for this great church!!

•I hope you all enjoyed last weekend off. I could never get used to that – I love our church and people too much. But, the rest and down time was much needed for me, our volunteers, and staff.

•DON’T FORGET OUR NEW SERVICE TIMES BEGINNING THIS SUNDAY
Athens Campus (HWY 29 location) – 9:15 am (NOT 9:30) and 11:15 am
Oconee Campus (NOHS Fine Arts Auditorium) – 11:15 am

•OK – I really can’t believe I just typed that but we are going to officially be ONE CHURCH meeting in TWO LOCATIONS in Athens, GA in less than 48 hours.

•To end the year, I made two BIG ASKS of our church –  FINISH 2008 STRONG and START 2009 STRONG!

•The first – You exceeded expectations. Still not over the unbelievable Christmas services we had together. It was the BIGGEST Single day of people responding to the Gospel in our church’s history!!

•Now, it’s time to “finish the drill” and START 2009 STRONG! We have an opportunity, which blows me away just thinking about it, for more people to respond to the Gospel on January 11 than we had at Christmas.

•We have PRAYED, PLANNED, PREPARED, ASKED, and BEGGED GOD to do things in our community NEVER before heard of. We are uniquely positioned as a church on the Edge of Opportunity for 2009 to be that kind of year.

•A.D.D. moment but there is a point to this one……I had one of those magical moments of bringing in the New Year in style on a Caribbean cruise with the entire family – don’t hate me!!

•My kids have THE BEST GRANNY & PAPA in the world…they took 14 of us…awesome and much needed time together as a family! My brother-in-law makes me laugh!!

We left the day after Christmas and sailed out of New Orleans. Yes, I almost got thrown in jail for punching out an obnoxious Alabama fan – WAY too much “Roll Tide” Sugar Bowl stuff going on! (Tide Fans – I am pulling for you to win big time tonight!!)

On the ship I was told there were 1000+ staff on the cruise to take care of approx 2000 guests (that’s insane). Each crew member had a specific task to do. They were unbelievably pumped about the opportunity to serve the guests. And, their common goal was for EVERY guest that walked on their ship to have the most incredible vacation experience of their lives.

It made me think of Compass Church and STARTING 2009 STRONG (now the point…)

….It’s going to take ALL  of us doing our part – PRAYING, SERVING, GIVING, and INVITING our friends like NEVER before!

….It’s going to take ALL of us being unbelievably pumped about the opportunity God has provided –  I don’t know of any other church in America that has the opportunity that we have to literally welcome and serve hundreds of new guests in January 2009.

….When we ALL come together as a team and “Do Our Thing” there’s NOTHING like it in the world!!

….The result – People have a Rocking Sunday Experience, God Shows Up and Shows Off Big Time, and HUNDREDS of people IGNITE their new year with a life changing connection with Jesus.

….Now, that’s a NEW YEAR’s PARTY I want to be part of with you!!

•Athens Campus – we have a few new surprises awaiting you this Sunday – it’s going to ROCK!!

•Oconee Campus – we will be doing a “Sneak Peek Preview Service”  at 11:15am – this means everyone is invited and welcome but also means it is a great practice service for our Parking, Host, Children’s, and Production Teams.

•WOW! We have two different bands this week…really two different everything – that’s crazy!!

On a personal note –

•I went technology free for 6 whole days – seriously, no texting, blogging, or emailing. Felt Weird and Great at the same time although there were a few ‘shakes’!

•I woke up sick on the ship Wed at 5 am. And I mean seriously SICK! Like things you would not want to hear about or especially smell. We disembarked at 9:30 am. Lisa had to drive the entire way home. I took 5 Nausea pills (and an asundry of other pills to make it home). I’m sure that classifies as an overdose and me a druggie some how. If it said reduces vomiting or diarrhea or motion sickness I tried it yesterday. Whoa – WTMI.
•Hey – the 9 hour ride was miserable but I slept well last night.

•We are going into the new year with the BEST TEAM of Staff, Volunteers, and Volunteer Leadership EVER!

•We have some VOLUNTEERS that have put their heart and soul and time on the line to pull off the move to two campuses – they have put in some INSANE hours – THANK YOU!!  I’m not so sure some of you are not “Angels Unaware.”

•I’m so glad God kicked me in the butt this year and showed me you don’t need ‘Jim’ to do a service, you need JESUS! I know some of you are still questioning this, but trust me – the Video service will work and people will meet Jesus and lives will be changed and we’ll be just as pumped about being at Compass!!

•I never would have imagined at the beginning of 2008 in one year of ministry we’d see 250+ “Flip The Switch” and baptize over 125 people. God ROCKS!

•We have PRAYED, PLANNED, and PREPARED for God to do something BIG in 2009. YES – 2008 was phenomenal but you ain’t seen nothing yet.

•I don’t know about you, but I want to be part of a revolutionary, unexplainable yet undeniable move of God in Northeast Georgia in my lifetime! I believe 2009 is the year that is going to happen at Compass Church. I hope you’ll be part of it!!

Don’t Forget our NEW SERVICE TIMES BEGINNING THIS SUNDAY are 9:15am (NOT 9:30am & 11:15am (Athens Campus) and 11:15am (Oconee Campus)
