•I hope you all enjoyed last weekend off. I could never get used to that – I love our church and people too much. But, the rest and down time was much needed for me, our volunteers, and staff.
Athens Campus (HWY 29 location) – 9:15 am (NOT 9:30) and 11:15 am
Oconee Campus (NOHS Fine Arts Auditorium) – 11:15 am
•To end the year, I made two BIG ASKS of our church – FINISH 2008 STRONG and START 2009 STRONG!
•The first – You exceeded expectations. Still not over the unbelievable Christmas services we had together. It was the BIGGEST Single day of people responding to the Gospel in our church’s history!!
•Now, it’s time to “finish the drill” and START 2009 STRONG! We have an opportunity, which blows me away just thinking about it, for more people to respond to the Gospel on January 11 than we had at Christmas.
•We have PRAYED, PLANNED, PREPARED, ASKED, and BEGGED GOD to do things in our community NEVER before heard of. We are uniquely positioned as a church on the Edge of Opportunity for 2009 to be that kind of year.
•A.D.D. moment but there is a point to this one……I had one of those magical moments of bringing in the New Year in style on a Caribbean cruise with the entire family – don’t hate me!!
•My kids have THE BEST GRANNY & PAPA in the world…they took 14 of us…awesome and much needed time together as a family! My brother-in-law makes me laugh!!
We left the day after Christmas and sailed out of New Orleans. Yes, I almost got thrown in jail for punching out an obnoxious Alabama fan – WAY too much “Roll Tide” Sugar Bowl stuff going on! (Tide Fans – I am pulling for you to win big time tonight!!)
On the ship I was told there were 1000+ staff on the cruise to take care of approx 2000 guests (that’s insane). Each crew member had a specific task to do. They were unbelievably pumped about the opportunity to serve the guests. And, their common goal was for EVERY guest that walked on their ship to have the most incredible vacation experience of their lives.
It made me think of Compass Church and STARTING 2009 STRONG (now the point…)
….It’s going to take ALL of us doing our part – PRAYING, SERVING, GIVING, and INVITING our friends like NEVER before!
….It’s going to take ALL of us being unbelievably pumped about the opportunity God has provided – I don’t know of any other church in America that has the opportunity that we have to literally welcome and serve hundreds of new guests in January 2009.
….When we ALL come together as a team and “Do Our Thing” there’s NOTHING like it in the world!!
….The result – People have a Rocking Sunday Experience, God Shows Up and Shows Off Big Time, and HUNDREDS of people IGNITE their new year with a life changing connection with Jesus.
….Now, that’s a NEW YEAR’s PARTY I want to be part of with you!!
•Athens Campus – we have a few new surprises awaiting you this Sunday – it’s going to ROCK!!
•Oconee Campus – we will be doing a “Sneak Peek Preview Service” at 11:15am – this means everyone is invited and welcome but also means it is a great practice service for our Parking, Host, Children’s, and Production Teams.
•WOW! We have two different bands this week…really two different everything – that’s crazy!!
On a personal note –
•I went technology free for 6 whole days – seriously, no texting, blogging, or emailing. Felt Weird and Great at the same time although there were a few ‘shakes’!
•I woke up sick on the ship Wed at 5 am. And I mean seriously SICK! Like things you would not want to hear about or especially smell. We disembarked at 9:30 am. Lisa had to drive the entire way home. I took 5 Nausea pills (and an asundry of other pills to make it home). I’m sure that classifies as an overdose and me a druggie some how. If it said reduces vomiting or diarrhea or motion sickness I tried it yesterday. Whoa – WTMI.
•Hey – the 9 hour ride was miserable but I slept well last night.
•We are going into the new year with the BEST TEAM of Staff, Volunteers, and Volunteer Leadership EVER!
•We have some VOLUNTEERS that have put their heart and soul and time on the line to pull off the move to two campuses – they have put in some INSANE hours – THANK YOU!! I’m not so sure some of you are not “Angels Unaware.”
•I’m so glad God kicked me in the butt this year and showed me you don’t need ‘Jim’ to do a service, you need JESUS! I know some of you are still questioning this, but trust me – the Video service will work and people will meet Jesus and lives will be changed and we’ll be just as pumped about being at Compass!!
•I never would have imagined at the beginning of 2008 in one year of ministry we’d see 250+ “Flip The Switch” and baptize over 125 people. God ROCKS!
•We have PRAYED, PLANNED, and PREPARED for God to do something BIG in 2009. YES – 2008 was phenomenal but you ain’t seen nothing yet.
•I don’t know about you, but I want to be part of a revolutionary, unexplainable yet undeniable move of God in Northeast Georgia in my lifetime! I believe 2009 is the year that is going to happen at Compass Church. I hope you’ll be part of it!!
Don’t Forget our NEW SERVICE TIMES BEGINNING THIS SUNDAY are 9:15am (NOT 9:30am & 11:15am (Athens Campus) and 11:15am (Oconee Campus)
