•Today was actually my FAVORITE of the GET SOME marriage series.
•Paul Sims summed it up well - Attendance was down (y’all chose the same week to go on vacation this year), BUT LIFE CHANGE WASN’T. Incredible end to an incredible series. Had someone walk out of the 11:15 video service (yes, it works!!) just elated because they celebrate their 41st wedding anniversary tomorrow. They loved renewing their vows to celebrate that, and they did it to a video of Jim and were incredibly moved. Great job Jim and Lisa today on the Q&A format.
•Lisa did an AWESOME job sharing some killer practical stuff about marriage, sex, and being a great mom! She ROCKS and JESUS rocks through her – I’ve got to be the MOST BLESSED dude on Planet Earth!!
•The VOW RENEWAL was off the chain. LOVED IT! Great idea by the Compass Creative Team – I almost nixed it on Saturday thinking it was going to be too cheesy.
•Had a couple come up to me after the service who were married last fall but NOT in a church environment. They were so grateful to have that opportunity to invite JESUS into their life and marriage in a “church” (not sure you can call either of the places we meet a “church”). But, no doubt as evidenced yesterday, God was in THE HOUSE!!
•Lot of tears and emotion today with the topics we discussed – my heart hurts for you and I’m praying for you.
•One thing I know – it takes GOD and it takes TIME and GOD DOES HAVE A PLAN…even for the darkest, most painful moments we experience.
•Today was Chase McKissick’s Birthday – we will all go to lunch tomorrow as a staff to celebrate – I have to eat WHATEVER he orders – better be something good!!
•God has used him to REVOLUTIONIZE Children’s Ministry in Northeast Georgia – never make a first time guest call that I don’t hear something GREAT about Compass Kids!!
•I LOVE our staff – got 2-3 spots we need to fill to take the next step in this great movement to change a city for Jesus. Economics making it tough right now. PRAY for wisdom, Right People, and sense of God’s Timing!
•Great week with Lis, the kids, Lis’ mom & dad, and some close friends at Panama City Beach – needed that BIG TIME!
•New PCB discovery - home made peanut butter ice cream w’ hot fudge – c’mon now, it was a worshipful moment!
•Favorite Restaurants in PCB – Hunts Oyster Bar (best fresh oysters/fried shrimp ANYWHERE), Angelos Steak Pit (nothing like the 32 oz. porterhouse medium rare), and Hammerhead Fred’s (crab claws ROCK).
•Got back at midnight Friday. Did a wedding on Saturday (they had Marble Slab at the reception – I triple dipped on that one). Most importantly, they were two young people who have done it right and saved themselves for their wedding night!! I’m just screaming – it does happen!!
•Father’s Day is this week. It’s always crazy to me that Mother’s Day is one of the highest attended Sundays and Father’s Day the lowest – c’mon guys LET’S CHANGE THAT STAT!!!!
•Summer Teaching Series are the BEST we’ve ever done. Confessions of a Pastor begins this Sunday!! “God Is…” begins mid July. And, we’re going back to school with what I BELIEVE will be the MOST LIFE CHANGING series we’ve ever done – THE GOSPEL. Yes, I’m FIRED UP about where God is taking us.
•Going to watch Kobe win #4, go to bed, hit P90X in the morning with MacLean, and get back in the groove at the office!!

God is already speaking some amazing stuff about our church into me as I get away! Can’t wait to be back this Sunday & answer your GET SOME questions…seriously-this is going to be THE BEST WEEK of the series – y’all are not shy!!

Today was an AWESOME day @ Compass…one of those days you we’re glad you showed up for…several highlights:
-People praying to receive Christ in ALL 3 services – it was freakin’ awesome to hear people PRAYING OUT LOUD to invite Jesus to be Lord of their life.
-We Baptized at both campuses….two teens – I LOVED THAT – Generational Influence!!
-God is doing something GREAT in the 11:15 AC video service. Guests are showing up every Sunday, People are responding – IT’S WORKING!!!
-It was great for me to hear from a couple married 47 years that “making up is still fun” and “marriage is Not For SISSIES!”
-Saw a ton of DUDES raising their hands today to say they would FIGHT for their marriages & become the Godly Leaders God has planned for them to be – that alone will start a movement of God like we’ve never seen – fires me up to see dudes putting God FIRST!!
-I”ll say it again – Show me a DUDE who’s following God as His #1 and you’ll find a lady whose willing to follow him anywhere!!
-Our Volunteers are the best part about Compass – you are so FIRED up to be there it makes me want even more to preach my guts out for you!!
-BOTH BANDS we’re rocking today – LOVED the worship.
-The Video clip was from the movie “Hope Floats” – saw it years ago & always wanted to use it in a service – NOW, you know why!!
-5 New Volunteers did their first Volunteer Experience today – WELCOME to the most passionate team of Volunteers in the world. If you are not volunteering in some capacity at Compass – WHY NOT? C’mon now – check out here how you, too, can be part of the Big Things God is doing in Northeast Georgia at Compass Church.
•We have 3 Summer Interns starting today, they’re pumped, I’m pumped, our staff is pumped to have some ‘mini-mes’ to pour into this summer!
•One of them drives a motorcycle – part of the agreement is he’s interning ME on that!!
•The beginning of summer in Athens is NOT the same without Dawgs Baseball hosting a regional and Super Regional – seriously bummed about that!
•Loved the ATTITUDE of the Lady Dawgs tonight – positive no matter what!
•Had a GREAT BIRTHDAY – my wife is the best. The JC Birthday Special at Carrabbas was some of the BEST FOOD I’ve ever tasted!!
•Yes – I received several texts, voice mails, and cards that included the words “Get Some” – y’all aren’t right!!!!
•There’s a BUZZ about what God is doing in marriages and this community through this church – NEVER been more excited about what God wants to do next. The best is yet to come!!

•God’s got a plan. In His economy, YOUR BEST DAYS are ahead of you. This is the heartbeat of our vision, why we get up in the morning, why we work our butts off every week to set up/tear down/and serve, why I Pray, Plan, Prepare, and Preach my guts out every single week, why we love doing what we are so honored and blessed to do.

SUNDAY PRE GAME
•Get Your “READY SHOES” on – Sunday is going to ROCK!! I’m fired up, pumped up, jacked up – ready to go!!
•GET SOME is one of my favorite and most fun series we’ve done all year. It’s incredible to hear about marriages praying together and having tough conversations. There’s a buzz – God is doing something powerful in marriages and the lives of our singles preparing them for their “TWO!!”
•This Sunday will be the toughest and most controversial for many. The most powerful words that ever came out of Jesus’ mouth were about our relational worlds and we’re not shying away from them.
•We’re BAPTIZING AGAIN on Sunday. Hearing the stories of how God is changing lives NEVER gets old.
•Got some GREAT NEWS this week about a door God is opening for us to do something really cool in our community. Still on the “DL” but please pray for us as we finalize the details and follow God’s leading!
•Call me biased or whatever you want but there’s no better way to jump start your week (for some, your life) than Sundays @ Compass!!!!
ON A PERSONAL NOTE…
•Mackenzie’s been at basketball camp all week – she’s undefeated in “one on one” so she tells me. Awards ceremony today @ 4pm – can’t wait.
•MacLean and I are setting goals for something Physical, Mental, and something Spiritual this summer – I love pouring into him and hanging out with him. Getting ready to do our next P90X workout in a minute – do your BEST and leave the REST!!
•Micah C is playing in the Athens Little League City Championship on Saturday night @ 5 pm. He’s on the mound. Can’t Wait.
•I’m married to the BEST and HOTTEST Mom on the Planet. I’ve GOT SOME making up to do – been more of a jerk than usual this week.
•Got the BEST GRANDMA on the planet – she made her famous Meat Loaf again this week – ahhhhh, lunch today!!
•It’s going to be a GREAT SUMMER!!!!!!

•Today was awesome. Loved our service, the worship, the passion of our people and volunteers, the energy of the 11:15 AC service (yea, I heard the video service was off the chain), the baptism @ OC – Loved EVERYTHING about today. God was in the house!!
•Did not experience the traditional “Memorial Day Dip” in attendance – that ROCKED!!
•Didn’t get to my last point today…had WAY TOO MUCH to say but I’m WAY passionate about Communication and Walking THROUGH Conflict in marriage.

•If you missed it, Lisa is joining me on stage, June 14 for the final week of GET SOME for no holds barred Q & A on marriage (your questions, not ours) – she also says she’s going to set the record straight on the Peanut Butter Jar story – DANG! I’m in trouble – there was more to that story that Grandma reminded her of at lunch today.
•Somebody asked me as I walked off stage if I was going to address the “M” word in the June 14th Q & A – let the games begin.
•We’re also wrapping the Get Some series on June 14 with the most powerful YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS creative element we’ve ever done in a marriage series. I CAN’T WAIT!!
•Went to Cracker Barrel after church – the Sunday Special and the Apple Dumpling was out of this world!
•Memorial Day – chilling out, taking a break, watching some baseball and movies with my family! Still can’t believe someone would sacrifice their life for me – thank you JESUS and huge thanks to our armed forces!!!

LIVING the Gospel
The New Testament makes it clear that our love will distinguish us as followers of Jesus. It is clear that God has called us not just to talk about the Gospel but to LIVE the Gospel…which means being willing to love, give and serve extravagantly…just as Jesus did for us!
Well just last week, God allowed our church to love, give and serve extravagantly! He allowed us to be the hands and feet of Jesus to a community. Last Friday, I got to watch our church LIVE the Gospel and a week later I still can’t get over it! I just wanted to take a moment today to celebrate a job well done with each of you.
Compass Church, you can rejoice that through your extravagant love, generosity and service we were able to be Jesus to a community in need by providing 365 families and 1704 total people with 13 meals for every person in the family! Those final numbers fire me up almost as much as the memories that I have of seeing our volunteers “bust it” to do whatever it took to put that food in the hands of families that needed it!
If you have given generously by making a commitment to BEYOND and make it a discipline to give back to God through your tithes and offerings, I want to say thanks for LIVING the Gospel! It was through our BEYOND offerings that we were able to partner with the Northeast Georgia Food Bank to make this event possible and through your continued generosity that we will be able to continue this outreach.
If you were one of the 40 plus volunteers that showed up and showed out to express the love of Jesus to our community in a tangible way, I want to say thanks for LIVING the Gospel! Never have I been more blown away by our volunteers than I was seeing you do whatever it took to put over 28,000 pounds of food into organized boxes and ultimately into the hands of families that needed it!
Finally, if you have been on the fence about partnering with Compass Church through your time, talents and treasures, then I encourage you to get in on the action as we seek to see the Gospel LIVED out in Northeast Georgia!
Since I get to post today and the blog is all mine…. I’d also like to take this opportunity to tell you how fired up I am about this coming Sunday!
It is week 2 of GET SOME, perhaps the most audacious yet impacting series we have ever done! I heard from so many couples and singles that this series could not be more timely and God is already challenging people in a HUGE way. I have absolutely no doubt that God wants to use this series to change homes, marriages and families all over Northeast Georgia…but you have got to be here and invite your friends so that he can do that! Bottom line is Satan wants to destroy marriages and wants to lead singles into destructive relationships and marriages. He wants YOU to do anything but GET SOME of what we are talking about on Sunday….GUTS. You don’t want to miss out on what God wants to say to you and how He wants to challenge you THIS SUNDAY!

ANNIVERSARY WEEK
•Anniversary week – celebrated 19 years of marriage on Tuesday, May 19 (took a blogging break early this week).
…YES! We had a great day – Lis picked me up early from work – hung out, saw a movie (Angels & Demons), dinner (Carrabbas – the chicken marsala is to die for)…nothing off the charts but LOVE spending time with her!
…YES!! we dated for 5 years and I love her more after 19 years of marriage than the day I met her!
…YES!!! we still feel like we’re “Clueless” and learning more about each other every day!
…YES!!!! we practice what I preach – that’s ALL I’m sayin’…
•Still RECOVERING from the surprise party we hosted for my mother-in-law at our house this past Saturday. 150 people, best chicken and barbecue on the planet, and the desserts – let’s just say we DON’T MESS AROUND – 10+ BEST CAKES ever assembled underneath one giant tent (chocolate, german chocolate, lemon, best carrot cake EVER, caramel, Italian cream) – don’t HATE me!!
•The Tent Company drove on our yard after a solid weekend of rain AND got the truck stuck. THAT WILL make a pastor cuss!! Lis and I did come down off the ledge AFTER they apologized every day this week, agreed to put all 3 of our kids through college, and are sending someone out to FIX it!
SUNDAY POST GAME
•Sunday ROCKED – Bold, Audacious, Inspiring, and Life Changing!!
•We kicked off our marriage series GET SOME!! As promised, it was OFF THE CHAIN!!! If you missed it, shoot yourself now…or at least listen to the podcast. Just the one principle alone that I shared about PRIORITIES God has used to forever CHANGE my life and marriage and many others!!
•21 people raised their hands to commit to making GOD THE ONE in their lives – I was BLOWN AWAY!!
•Tons of people also raised their hands and took the challenge to fight for their marriage or future marriage by PRAYING for their spouse/future spouse for 7 straight days – that’s AWESOME. Lis and I are 3 for 3. I LOVE it when we can hit Satan where it counts …he does not like it when we PRAY because it moves the heart of God on our behalf!!
•I challenged singles who are SERIOUS about doing marriage God’s way to invite a Godly couple who has a marriage they respect to dinner and ask them questions about what it takes to Get Some!! (that ought to be fun!!)
•A couple that celebrates their 47th Wedding Anniversary in June told me “Marriage isn’t for sissies!!” I LOVED that.
•We had a First Time Guest on Sunday that was BLOWN AWAY by our VOLUNTEERS!!
•I’ve used the GET SOME INVITE CARDS to invite at least 5 people already this week – the most intriguing, captivating, audacious, in-your-face INVITE CARD we’ve ever done (ok, “Chicks Dig Compass!” is a close 2nd).
•Seriously, there is not a person living in Northeast Georgia that God will not use this topic to rock their world.
•Seriously, there is no better series to GET SOME FRIENDS to come to church with you!!
•Fired up about Sunday – finishing the talk today – GET SOME GUTS!!!!!

•Can’t Wait to start GET SOME this Sunday – our newest teaching series on marriage.
TRUST ME – you want to BE THERE EVERY SUNDAY for the next 4 weeks. Singles, Students (middle & high school too) or Married – this series is for you!! I’ve been working on this one for 18 years!! This series has the potential to change every home, marriage, family, and community in NE GA. Because when it comes to marriage, we all need to GET SOME…Priorities, Perspective, Commitment, and Guts. This is THE MOTHER of all series to INVITE your friends to church. I promise you if you come alone, you will be thinking ‘Why didn’t I bring THEM with me today?” Whoever ‘THEM’ is – make sure THEY are there at Compass THIS SUNDAY – God going to rock our world!!!!
POURING INTO OUR COMMUNITY
It’s not too late to join the growing Army of COMPASS-ERS this afternoon at Fowler Drive elementary from 2:45-6:30pm to overwhelm this community with the love of Jesus. We’ll UNLOAD a tractor trailer full of food and DISTRIBUTE it to the Fowler Drive community. If you’ve got some extra time, drop by…Chase or Deby will find something for you to do You’ll be blessed for being Jesus with skin on!!

•Today was AMAZING…God showed up and showed off!!
•We saw 5 People STAND (can you BELIEVE that!!!!) to pray and walk through THE DOOR by inviting Jesus to be their Savior – NEVER GETS OLD!
•Can I just say – that moment was so POWERFUL – took guts and courage to stand in front of everybody – Rocked My World!!
•DOORS was our most impacting series to date – we’ve seen 123 people pray to receive Christ the past 5 weeks – that’s
NOT NORMAL church!
•We got to Baptize in all 3 services today – God is doing BIG THINGS every week – AMAZING!
•BTW…if you prayed to receive Christ during the DOORS series, you need to be baptized. Do it on May 31 at our next baptism. Sign up here to schedule your baptism. According to the Bible, it’s your very next step after opening the Door of your heart to Jesus.
•OK – I really do have the BEST JOB in the world – the HAMMER was awesome. Our Creative Team ROCKS!!
•Say it every week – I LOVE OUR WORSHIP!! Matt and Alex, band and singers, the entire production team ROCK and most of all JESUS Rocks through them EVERY TIME they step on stage.
•I’m going to miss Alex leading worship the remainder of this year. Special heart, loves Jesus, loves to worship, and loves Compass!! God’s got big plans for his life. I hope they include Compass when he returns from France next year.
•I still can’t believe I said “I Love Dudes” before baptizing Dustin (who is a BIG DUDE) at the OC. Guess you had to have been there but it sure sounded and felt “AWKWARD” after it came out of my mouth.
•Seriously – we need some DUDES to stand up in THIS GENERATION, do what’s right, lead their families well, and point their kids to Jesus – the fact I see that happening at Compass Church FIRES me up like crazy!!
•I received an email late last night from a MOM whose DUDE came with her yesterday – made her day!! Here’s an excerpt that made my day – “Thank you for creating an environment where he felt comfortable enough to come. I am so glad that GOD has called me to be a part of this movement in NE GA.”
•Something is happening in our church right now, I can’t explain – just feels like God is about to BLOW THE DOORS off of this place. I’ve never been so excited to be the pastor of this church! This year of ministry is going to be like NOTHING we’ve ever been part of!!
•Between services I received some feedback that I should CELEBRATE the Bloggers who have something negative to say about our church – mean’s we’re relevant and our voice is being heard. I need to clarify for our AC (OC I explained better). It’s NOT when they talk about me personally that bothers me, it’s when they start talking about YOU that fires me up. Tonight, I have a new mindset though… I’m Celebrating Accusations!!!
•THIS FRIDAY, MAY 15th, 2:45-6:30pm, we need you to VOLUNTEER TO HELP UNLOAD the Tractor Trailer Load of Food, PACK it up for 500 families, and DISTRIBUTE it to the Fowler Drive Community. Our goal is to put a Freakin Army of COMPASS-ERS on the ground to overwhelm this community with the love of Jesus. Jesus said it best – NOT by our Words but by our LOVE & ACTIONS will we PROVE we follow Jesus (John 13:35). This is OUR MOMENT to be Jesus with Skin On. Click here to VOLUNTEER!!

Want to position myself, our team, and our church to learn from the best and be the best stewards of the incredible vision God has so deeply placed in my heart to make Jesus famous in NE GA and Beyond.
•Love it that the Braves took 4 out of 6 from top 2 teams in their division…what’s happened to our Diamond Dawgs? – still believe they are going to make a post season run – they needed that win big time yesterday!!
•Crazy, Busy Week. Pray for our staff – we have a huge hole to fill. Praying for the right person.
•We ain’t seen nothing yet Compass!!
