WOW – AWESOME DAY at Compass…here’s some thoughts -
- Heaven got BIGGER today – we saw people in both services surrender their lives to JESUS….
- ….haven’t received the exact count yet, BUT if it was only just ONE it was WORTH IT!!
- Today, we simply opened up the Word of God and saw what HE had to say about MONEY!!
- It’s ALL HIS (Deuteronomy 8:17-18, I Chronicles 29:11-12, Psalm 24:1)
- It’s a TEST (Luke 16:10-12)
- It’s the #1 COMPETITOR FOR YOUR HEART when it comes to following Jesus (Matthew 6:21-24)
- God wants our FIRST and our BEST – anything less is DISOBEDIENCE!! (Genesis 4:3-4, Proverbs 3:9-10)
- IMAGINE what if EVERYONE who Follows Jesus said “Let’s Do This” – let’s stop robbing God and BRING to Him what is His….(Malachi 3:8-10)
- IMAGINE what we could do together in this generation to help the poor, take care of the sick and see lives changed!!
- IMAGINE what the church could be – a flippin TSUNAMI of GENEROSITY, FULLY FUNDED to do the WILL OF GOD!!
- It all starts with a group of people willing to say LET”S DO THIS - TRUST GOD, Be Obedient, & Be Generous - LET”s BE THAT Group of People!!
- We had 50 people register for next Sunday night’s (March 21, 5:30-7:30pm) FINANCIAL LEARNING EXPERIENCE (FLE)!!
- Yes, that’s AWESOME, but there are more of you who need to be there.
- Satan has a plan for your money – to totally keep you in bondage through debt and screw up your life!!
- God has a plan too – FREEDOM from debt where you can use what He’s Blessed you with to do the most good in your generation.
- SERIOUSLY – if you are married or single, you don’t have to argue about money or stress out over paying the bills.
- I can’t do this for you, but with God’s Help and some very practical steps ANYONE can – YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Several Thoughts About Today –
- We talked about MONEY today – always fun and always creates some automatic tension.
- So many people are living day-to-day with incredible financial stress and tension - Compass Church wants to help.

- …Couple of thoughts on this –
- For many of you reading this Proverbs 22:7 is true in your life right now.
- You are a SLAVE to visa…a car payment…a house you can’t afford…
- And, if you are SERVING THEM, you cannot be FULLY SERVING JESUS (Matthew 6:24)
- You’ve been saying for a long time you are going to get a handle on this but it continues to get worse…
- And, if God made a BIG ASK of you today…told you to pursue something different with your life, it would bring stress not excitement because…you could not afford to do it.
- Here’s your shot – Step Up, Sign up, Show Up, and position yourself to get out of financial bondage.
- You do not have to attend Compass - it’s open to EVERYONE. It’s FREE…CHILDCARE is Provided.
- YOU NEED TO BE THERE…SIGN UP HERE!!!!
- Like I said – today wasn’t about wanting anything FROM you but rather wanting something FOR you.
- The key to financial freedom in our lives is not MORE…rather, it is stewarding what we already have.
- Why preach on money? Marriages are being torn apart…people are losing hope…and JESUS TALKED ABOUT IT MORE THAN ANY OTHER SINGLE TOPIC!!
- So many churches feel the need to apologize for teaching on money…that’s CRAZY! We preach on prayer…God’s will…sexual purity…why not talk about finances!?
- We can’t ask God for more until we learn to honor Him with what we already have (Luke 16:10-12)
- Jesus did not die for a MOMENT…He died for a MISSION…which means I must offer Him my VERY BEST and not left overs.
- God is a generous God (John 3:16) who gives wonderful gifts (2 Corinthians 9:15)
- The reason the Gospel isn’t advancing as fast as it should be is not because of God…it’s because of GRINCHY/GREEDY people who are claiming to follow Jesus.
- Some people say they can’t afford to tithe….mmhh, I’ve found I can’t afford not to.
- For those who BRING IT…thank you…because of what you do Hell is getting smaller, Heaven is bigger, and God’s Kingdom is advancing.
- For those who got mad today…it’s because your idol was attacked. Money is a merciless god…it will leave you in debt, unfulfilled, and hopeless.
- Our VOLUNTEERS at Compass are simply AMAZING…to those who are involved at either campus – THANK YOU!!
- Great to have several new Emmanuel College faces in the worship team today – you guys Rock and Jesus rocks through you!!

Compass’ good friend JOE SANGL says, “Hello!” (for those new to Compass Church since March, Joe spoke in one of our Sunday services and rocked our worlds with the BEST PRACTICAL FINANCIAL HELP we’ve ever heard. (get the podcast here). Got to hang out with him last week at the Pastor’s Round Table. God’s using him to change the world Big Time!! (he and his wife are expecting – boo yah!!). 200k-M PARTY
•Took a break from blogging this week but back with the Sunday PRE-GAME!
•My boys called me on the way to school today to say, “Dad, we’re having a 200,000 mile PARTY!”
•I knew exactly what they meant – Lisa’s Suburban was getting ready to hit 200,000 miles.
•For the next 2-3 minutes (had to pause for 1-2 red lights) we counted down over the speaker phone the “tenths” of a mile from 199,999.1.
•That PUMPED me up for several reasons:
#1 – I’d rather be DEBT FREE and drive a car with 200k miles than buy into the culture that says I need a new car and a new car payment.
#2 – It reminds me that as a family we are putting our money where our mouth is – Connecting People far from God to JESUS!
#3 – My Boys Get It!! I’ve learned in parenting that Life Lessons are CAUGHT not Taught. They are catching every day what it means to Put God First Financially – yes, they will BOTH marry Hotties one day just like their mom because they will have their financial act together. There’s nothing more SEXY than a guy who both Loves Jesus AND is DEBT FREE. They’re headed in the right direction.
#4 – It reminded me that if a boy from a family that had foreclosed on 3 homes and filed 2 bankruptcies can become debt free – anybody can!!
•BUT – it takes a PLAN!! You CAN Do this. You CAN get Debt Free! You CAN control your money rather than it controlling you.
•The Only thing I know that can change your life more than Jesus is getting a plan to get your financial world in order.

•I’m still jacked up about, recovering from, and not over what GOD DID Easter Weekend – it wasn’t normal.
•The day we get over just ONE changed life is the day we need to shut the doors.
•Who are you bringing with you THIS SUNDAY – it’s going to be a GREAT WEEKEND!!

•I had a business partner tell me something I’ve never forgotten – “Showing up is 90% of the game – the rest will happen when you get there!” I’ve never forgotten that and tried to live a lot of my life like that.
•I remember “teetering” on which college or even if I should attend college – of the dozens of colleges I looked at I decided to Show Up at Liberty University. It was the best “5″ years of my life and I ended up traveling around the world and doing an internship at the White House one summer. Bottom Line – I’m really glad I SHOWED UP.
•You might be thinking: “It’s not for me”…”I don’t need this”…”I’m so far in debt, there’s really no hope”…”I got my act together financially”…”I don’t want to face that big gorilla that lives in my personal finances”…”I’d rather not deal with the obvious elephant in the room – checkbook, debt, and our personal finances”…
•I want to encourage and challenge (or for those that need a kick in the butt, that too) and say the Wise Thing to do would be if at all possible to SHOW UP tonight.
•I’m blown away by who’s coming – college students, singles, young couples, people just getting started in life, people on the brink of filing bankruptcy (like tomorrow), marriages that are hanging on by a thread hoping this can help them reduce stress & conflict, people whose finances are in total dissarray, people already on a budget eager to learn how they can more efficiently become debt free, some that are just curious, stay at home moms, doctors, lawyers, CEOs, business owners, bankers, accountants, even my 93 year old grandmother (who’s pumped about it).
•This is for EVERYONE – there was a buzz this morning at 6:30am at my Wed morning Men’s Group about tonight’s event and the possibility and potential it provided for us as men to get the tools and help we needed to get our financial houses in order.
•Men – I promise you there’s nothing so sexy as being SPIRITUAL AND DEBT FREE!!
•You have an opportunity to SHOW UP tonight and see something BIG happen – I hope you’ll walk through that door.
•FLE begins promptly at 6:30 (ends at 8:30). Childcare & 706 Student (middle and high school) Drop Off begins at 6pm at Compass’ Athens Campus.
