5 THINGS WE ARE LEARNING TOGETHER AS A CHURCH (PART 2)
Posted by: jcarpenter in Things We Are Learning, tags: Gospel•We’ve seen 82 people Flip The Switch and invite Jesus into their life in the past month. That’s not Normal. That’s God!!
•Perry Noble said this recently:
“We need to live our lives and preach the Gospel in such a way that people far from God DON’T have a hard time believing in God because of the hypocrisy they see in our lives…OR because of the sub par standards we have set in our worship services!
It’s not that the Gospel is ‘unbelievable,’ but rather the fact that often times we make it unbelievable.
Yes, I know that ‘salvation belongs to the Lord,’ and that no one comes to Christ unless they are drawn by Him…it’s just that I think we need to do life and do church in such a way that when Jesus does draw someone to Himself He can draw them THROUGH us rather then sending them AROUND us.”
#4 – YOU & I ARE BLESSED WITH A BURDEN
Have you seen the movie, “Freedom Writers?” If not, it’s a must (especially if you’re a teacher, work with kids, have a heart that’s beating – powerful story).
My favorite scene is when the father looks at his daughter trying to explain why she is so compelled to connect with people much of society has written off. I’ll never forget his words – “You have been BLESSED WITH A BURDEN”
Compass, we’ve been “BLESSED WITH A BURDEN” to connect with people and lead them to Jesus. I can see it in your eyes, hear it in our conversations, and recognize it by your actions.
#5 – WE CAN DO THIS
Who’s WE? NOT you and me, that’s for sure. WE is you, me, and GOD.
What is THIS? Do WHATEVER IT TAKES to Connect with people/culture and lead them to Jesus.
Somebody told me today they didn’t like the way we did church (guess what – they’ve never been to Compass). So, they decided to pray instead of getting angrier. I said thanks, we need all the prayer we can get. I told them 82 people had Flipped The Switch and we were going to baptize 50+ people…speechless and a smile. I need to blog more about this later.
Heard this song yesterday by Steve Fee – LOVED the words. It was written for this moment. Can’t think of a better way to describe what’s in my heart right now:
There’s a stirring in my heart – UNEXPLAINABLE
There’s a calling on my days – UNDENIABLE
And there’s a fire in my bones – UNCONTAINABLE
Reading in Acts this week…Luke said this about the greatest single day in early church history – Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church THAT DAY – about 3000 in all” (Acts 2:41)
I’m praying ‘THAT DAY” would become THIS DAY for 100s of people THIS SUNDAY.
Headed to Friday lunch with my wife. That Rocks!!
Going to the funeral home tonight. My niece’s husband’s grandfather began his dance on streets of gold yesterday. I just married them this past Easter. His grandfather was only 66 – way too young.
High School Football tonight, Prayer Time @ Church tomorrow 8:45am – 9:30am, youth football game @ 10:00 am, Dawgs & SC @ 3:30, USC & OSU @ 8:00 and then GAME DAY for COMPASS. It’s shaping up to be a Rockin Weekend. See You Sunday.
